Wisconsin Farm Tours Hosted by Badger NAMA
Thanks to Badger NAMA (National Agrimarketing Association), Calf-Tel’s marketing team joined a group of dairy industry professionals on a tour of three extremely impressive facilities last week, Vir-Clar Farm, LaClare Farms, and Kelley Country Creamery. While all three are dairies, they range in scope, scale and business models, which made for a memorable learning experience.
Our first visit was Vir-Clar Farm, a model dairy located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Vir-Clar Farm has a 1,250 cow heard and methane digesters that supply electricity for 800 homes. Their dairy operation is extremely impressive and employs the latest technologies and industry best practices. Vir-Clar also raises all of their own calves and I’m very happy to say they use Calf-Tel Hutches.
The next stop was at LaClare Farms, a dairy goat operation, diner and retail shop, located in Malone, Wisconsin. LaClare Farms milks 375 goats and is known for their award winning cheeses. The diner provides views of the milking parlor and the storage for aging cheese. It’s a great place to visit and learn about how goat milk and cheese is produced while enjoying locally raised, fresh food.
The last stop of the day was at Kelley Country Creamery, a family owned ice cream shop in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. The Kelley family has a 65 cow dairy, which supplies all of the milk for the ice cream shop. Since opening in 2010 they have been awarded “Best ice cream in America” by Good Morning America and “Best Ice Cream Shop in Wisconsin” by USA Today. Kelley’s features over 250 flavors with 22 available daily.
This tour is just one of many rewarding and educational events the local Badger NAMA holds. Thanks to Vir-Clar Farm, LaClare Farms, and Kelley Country Creamery we learned a lot and had a great day.
